COMPETITION JUDGES
Andre Bourque
Andre, a resident of Millis, Ma., has been a
camera club member for over 20 years. He has competed at Stony Brook
Camera Club in the AA level, receiving many awards for his outstanding
work. Currently Andre has gone digital, and he took this new venture to a
very high level by presenting a totally digital, highly creative show at
NECCC in the summer of 2004. This show has also been presented at camera
clubs in the eastern states. Andre has conducted workshops on digital
imaging and has had gallery shows of his beautiful prints.
Recent awards are: Black & White Print of the
Year, 2002/2003 - Stony Brook CC., First place winner NECCC model print
competition. His winning photo was used on the cover of the 2003
Speaker’s notes for NECCC. Douglas H Wanser Memorial Award for the best
black & white portrait, 1992.
Dan Charbonnet
Dan has been seriously involved in photography
since he joined his first camera club in 1973. He is active in PSA,
currently serving as Director in the Nature division and as commentator
for color and nature slide study groups. His knowledge of nature is
exceptional, and he serves as the "identifier" of nature
subjects for PSA. He can also tell you about habits and habitat of almost
any of the many species that are the subjects of the PSA nature salon
entries. Dan belongs to PSA, Yankee Photographic Society, Stony Brook
Camera Club, Greater Lynn Camera Club, Boston Camera Club and Mass. Camera
Naturalists, and has served many of these clubs as an officer. In PSA
exhibitions, Dan has reached top limits in the color slide division, with
impressive star ratings in Nature, Photo Travel and Photojournalism. He
has also been awarded over 40 medals in international competition. Added
to his club participation, Dan is also a judge, lecturer and author.
Rick Cloran
Rick Cloran is a member of Greater Lynn CC,
Yankee Photographic Society, has judged widely and done presentations for
clubs and also at Yankee.
He is extremely good at most types of photography
from nature to sports and photojournalism. He is also very astute which
makes his critiques so helpful, as he seems to understand the digital
creative process very well.
Greg Crisci
Greg has been a member of the Boston Camera club
for over 20 years, and has served as treasurer for that organization. He
is also a member of the Mass Camera Naturalists, an exclusive
"invitation only" club whose members must demonstrate that they
produce quality nature images, and have a strong regard and respect for
nature subjects. He is past chairman of this organization. In addition, he
has judged and lectured at various camera clubs and produced a program for
NECCC in Amherst and has received a Gold Medal at NECCC for the best New
England entry. Greg’s photos have appeared in magazines and catalogues.
Kent Crossley
Kent joined Stony Brook Camera Club with a number
of other people from the Photo Society of Rhode Island. Kent is a
versatile photographer with expertise in model photography, and he works
with model set ups for the Yankee Photographic Society and NECCC. He is
also an excellent nature and scenic photographer, and produces some
beautiful special effects images as well. Kent is currently a member of
the Photographic Society of Rhode Island and the Mass Camera Naturalists,
and is a past member of Stony Brook Camera Club, Boston Camera Club and
Fall River Camera Club. His helpful, but careful commentary has taught us
a great deal about creating better photographs.
John Fuller
John has the honor of being awarded
"Fellow" in the Photographic Society of America,
"Master" member of New England Camera Club, and
"Artiste" of the International Federation of the Art of
Photography. These honors are awarded for years of dedicated service to
each organizations. He is a multi-star exhibitor in PSA in color, nature
and photo journalism.
John was a founding member of Stony Brook Camera
Club, Honorary member of Photographic Society of America, and member of
Mass Camera Naturalists, Boston Camera Club, and North American Nature
Photographers Association. He has served as an officer in most of these
organizations, as well as acting as a judge, lecturer, exhibitor, and
workshop presenter. He has been published in many notable magazines,
newspapers and calendars.
Stan Godwin
Stan was an Associate Professor of Photography at Texas
A&M-Commerce (TAMU-C) where he was employed for 30 years. He taught a
large variety of courses including, Basic B&W, Color, Nature and
Wildlife, Visual Perception and Digital Imaging. At retirement Stan was
the Interim Head of the Art Department. Stan has taught over 30 workshops,
continues to shoot professionally and personally, and was the lead for one
of the first 5 digital programs in a US university.
In 2005 Stan received the “Star of Texas” award for his lengthy
contribution to photographic education. His photographic work has been
published in hundreds of magazines, newspapers and books over the last
three decades. His work has been shown in galleries and on the web. He is
a past President of the Photo Imaging Education Association and currently
serves as Consultant to that group. Currently Stan is teaching a variety
of workshops on Cape Cod and in Texas.
Stan holds the BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and the MS from
TAMU-C. After a 30-year hiatus Stan has moved back to his childhood home
in Brewster!
Ray Guillette
Ray is a pediatrician with a passion for
photography. He has been a presenter at NECCC and other venues in New
England and New York, and possibly other places as well. He has judged
local clubs and PSA salons, and recently was published. I'll try to find
out the details. His creativity is legendary, his scenics are really
awesome, and his love of children certainly shows in his kid photos. He
also has done some very fine images of the marathon, and created numerous
beautiful slide shows. Ray still prefers to shoot slides
Arnold Kaplan
Our Judge tonight has been presenting, judging and critiquing at New
England Camera Clubs and Councils for more than 35 years. He has presented
over four hundred color slide presentation from coast to coast, including
a half dozen all day photo-seminars. He is one of the founding fathers of
Yankee Photographic Society and was their first program chairman. He
joined the Boston Camera Club and the South Shore Camera Club in the early
1960’s and became a member of the Cape Cod Viewfinders in 1978, after he
retired and moved to Cape Cod. He is the author of the famous yellow
covered Vermont photo guide book, “How To Find and Photograph The Photo-Scenics
In Vermont”.
Jake Mosser
Jake Mosser is a serious amateur and
semi-professional who has been obsessed with photography for the past 30
years. He has earned top photographic honors from the Photographic
Society, the New England Camera Club Counsel and the Greater Lynn
Photographic Association for both his skills with the camera and his
efforts on behalf of the photographic community. Jake is most at home in
the field with camera in hand, but he finds great satisfaction in teaching
the techniques and vision he has learned through experience and the
kindness of other sharing photographers.
Susan Mosser
Susan Mosser has been involved in photography at
the organizational level since 1978. She is the long-standing chairman of
the Greater Lynn International, America’s and possible the world’s
largest single division PSA approved color slide exhibition. She has
served as program chairman for the Photographic Society of America, the
New England Camera Club Counsel, Yankee Photographic Society and the
Greater Lynn Photographic Association and been President of all except PSA.
For her dedication to photographic organizations and for her success
behind the camera Susan has been awarded a "Fellowship" in the
Photographic Society of America and been made an "honorary"
member of the New England Camera Club Counsel. Susan has organized and led
photo-safaris to Africa and across North America. Her eye for an image has
earned her four stars as an exhibitor in PSA color and nature slide
exhibitions.
Shiv Verma, MNEC
A photographer, educator and technologist.
He has been photographing since he was a teenager but with the advent of digital he has evolved his photography to express his intense devotion to wildlife and nature. Since 2003 Shiv has been capturing images exclusively in the digital realm and over the years has earned numerous awards and recognition both nationally and internationally.
“I think of photography as art – represented by the vision of the photographer. Photography gives me the ability to express and to communicate ideas that cannot be expressed in words.”
He devotes a great deal of his time formally reviewing photography related products, to education in digital photography and is a speaker and competition judge. He belongs to multiple photographic clubs and associations and serves as Vice-Chair Nature Division, PSA; Director of the slide instructional and essay sets, PSA; Vice President of the Digital Circuit NECCC. Shiv is a past President of the Stony Brook Camera Club; and the Gateway Camera Club.
Henry Weisenburger
Henry Weisenburger has been involved in
photography for over 50 years. He has numerous letters after his name,
such as APSA (Associate, Photo Society of America) indicative of the
recognition he has received in his photographic pursuits. Mass Camera
Naturalists, Photographic Historical Society of New England, and Yankee
Photographic Society all claim Henry as one of their charter members, and
he is also a member of Boston Camera club and Sudbury Valley Nature
Photographers. Henry has taught over 60 educational seminars and courses,
been a star rated PSA member for over 50 years, a commentator, lecturer,
photography instructor, exhibitor and judge. With a background in
Aerospace Engineering, Henry also brings his technical expertise to his
photography avocation, skillfully fixing things that go wrong, and
creating all sorts of gadgets that assist him and others in creating
beautiful images.
Bob Yankee
Bob Yankee lives in Franklin, Ma. He has taught
photography for many years in the Franklin Adult Education Program. He was
a founding member of the Stony Brook Camera Club, where he maintains his
membership. Bob has also been very active in NECCC serving as President
and Equipment Director. We have had the pleasure of Bob’s thoughtful
commentary for our competitions during the past three years, and he has
judged at other clubs throughout New England. He also has twice judged the
photography exhibition at the Chatham Center for the Creative Arts.
Bob and his wife Loretta enjoy trips to the outer
Cape where he creates stunning images of sea, sky, sand, light and shadows
so beautifully inherent to this area. He will be with us on October 21 to
judge our 2nd slide competition.
